Report on Performance of H&F MP3 Players
Introduction
1.1 Background
Our company has appointed M&D Market Research Company to prepare market survey regarding the performance of our MP3 players in the market, especially compared with that of iGADGET MP3 player. The result has not been satisfactory.
1.2 Purpose
As requested, this report presents the findings and related data for the managers to further discuss ways to make improvements for enhancing sales level and to gain competitive advantage when comparing with iGADGET MP3 Players.
1.3 Outline
The report first starts by stating the procedures of collecting the data, and followed by the findings. A conclusion is given and at last there will be a few recommendataions.
2. Procedures
The findings for this analysis are based upon market survey carried out with MP3 consumers. A total of 200 H&FMP3 users and 200 iGADGET MP3 has been interviewed respectively. They were interviewed on 6 aspects, which includes Design, Functions, Sound quality, Battery life, Headphone quality, and overall satisfaction.
3. Findings
3.1 Overview
Attachment 1 shows the satisfaction with H&F and iGADGET MP3 players in February 2011. Regarding overall satisfaction, only a half of H&F MP3 users are satisfied while nearly two-thirds of iGADGET MP3 users are satisfied. H&F MP3 users are mostly satisfied with the aspects of sound quality and battery life. In the following sections, more will be focused on the aspects of Design, Functions, and Headphone quality as the satisfaction level are lower than that of iGADGET MP3 players.
3.2 Design
It is clear that only less than half of H&F MP3 users are satisfied with the design of the MP3, while compared with iGADGET, there are over four-fifths of its users are satisfied. One of the possible reason to that maybe H&F MP3 players are only in Black and White and not fashionable. This implies that H&F MP3 are not attractive to the consumers.
3.3 Functions
The table shows that only a third of H&F MP3 users are satisfied with the function of the MP3, it is much lower than the satisfaction level of iGADGET MP3 of having a two-thirds of users satisfied with its function performance. This might be caused by H&F MP3 requiring users to install a software to transfer music files while iGADGET MP3 simply use drag-and drop. The effect of this might be making H&F MP3 player less user friendly.
3.4 Headphone quality
The data indicates that only a quarter of H&F MP3 users are satisfied with the headphone quality, it is slightly lower than the two-fifth satisfaction level of iGADGET MP3 users. This appears that both MP3 players have low satisfaction on headphone quality, which maybe caused by the poor manufacturing process and quality control problem , and this results in the loss of reputation of the MP3.
3.5 Market Share
Attachment 2 show the trend of local market share in MP3 players concerning H&F and iGADGET MP3 players. We discovered that the H&F MP3 players has a steady decline starting from 22 % in August 2010 until only slightly more than one in ten of consumers in February 2011. However, we learned that iGADGET has a significant increase in local market share from November 2010 to about two-thirds. This shows that there has been a widening gap between the difference of local market share of both companies from 33% to 50%. The reason to the above situation maybe related to the promotion strategy that using Felix Chan to be the celebrity spokesperson for H&F MP3 players which he is not attractive to teenagers.
4.Conclusion
Overall then, the findings clearly indicate that a significant number of consumers were dissatisfied with H&F MP3 players regarding the above three aspects: Old fashion design, inconvenient functions, and poor headphone quality. As to enhance the future sales, we suggested that improvements are necessary.
5.Recommendations
After considering the findings, the following recommendations are made:
5.1 In the view of Design, I recommend that the company should improve the design with more colours available and be more fashionable.
5.2 Given that H&F MP3 players are not user friendly enough, the company should make it more user friendly and more update the functions for the consumers' convenience.
5.3 Finally, the company should improve the quality control process in order to ensure the headphone used by the customers are in good condition and maintain their satisfaction.
